About J. H. Sastry "Brown Sastry"

Dr.Janamaddi Hanumath Sastry is popularly known as "Brown Sastry" in telugu literary world. He was born on 20.10.1925 in Rayadurg, a small town in the disctrict of Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh to Late Smt. Janakamma and Late Sri Subrahmanya Sastri. He pursued his Master of Arts degree in English and Telugu, B.Ed. Rashtra Visharada. He was honoured with D.Litt by the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad for his invaluable contributions to the world of Telugu literature. He worked as a teacher, Inspector of Schools, Educational Survey Officer and lecturer in English in Degree College. He retired on 28.02.1984. He dedicated his entire life for the development of C.P.Brown Library. He had written 40 Books in Telugu, 2 Books in English and about 3000 articles on various subjects which were published in various popular Telugu Dailies, Weeklies and Monthly magazines.

  • Recipient of Eeduru Subbaih literary Award Nellore in 2011.

  • Recipient of "Ananta Ani Mutyalu Puraskaram" in Penugonda on 6-3-2003.

  • "Seeripi Anjaneyulu Award" from Kala Jyothi, Dharmavaram in 1993.

  • "Ayyanki Award" for his Library Movement at Guntur in February 1992 during All India Library Conference

  • Award from Lalitha Kala Parishad in 1991 at Anantapur

  • Recipient of Gaadepalli Kukkuteswara Rao Memorial Award at Addanki.


Honours

  • Honoured by Dr.Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 2008 on "Sarva Dhari" Telugu Ugadi Festival.

  • Recipient of Kalluri Venkata Narayana Rao Memorial Award 7.3.1999 at Anantapur from Smt. Pratibha Bharathi, Minister for Higher Education, Govt of A.P, Hyderabad.

  • Honoured by His Holiness Sri Vishwesha_Teertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt with the Title "Dharmika Seva Dhurina" on 31.01.1999

  • Recipient of Honorary Doctorate from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad on 15.12.1998.

  • Honoured by Sri. P.V.Narasimha Rao, Prime Minister of India during inaugural function of "Vaartha" Telugu Daily on 25.11.1996 at Hyderabad.

  • Honoured by Sri.Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for his excellent Service as Secretary, C.P.Brown(Charles Phillip Brown) Memorial Library on 29.11.1995

  • Honoured by the Andhra Association, New Delhi, Under the Presidentship of Dr.P.L.Sanjeeva Reddy Director General, Institute of Foreign Trade, Govt of India on 31.10.1995

  • Honoured by the State Panditha Parishad during the annual conference in 1990 at kadapa.
